About My Clients
My patients are quite often those who feel 'stuck' in specific patterns or routines that feel endless and challenging to overcome. Some also are specifically seeking a psychoanalytic approach, and want a traditional Lacanian or Freudian frame in facilitating this approach. Patients who wish to examine the subjective structures that determine one's experience of the world in order to gain a stronger sense of agency in pursuit of their desire.
My Background and Approach
I have been practicing psychodynamic psychotherapy for over 8 years, and have come to a specific Lacanian orientation. I am presenting completing my Ph.D in psychodynamic psychotherapy at ICSW in Chicago Illnois. My specific academic focus is Lacanian approaches for the treatment of Psychosis. I also produce academic work on Lacanian psychoanalytic analysis of Aesthetics, including cinema, music, and literature. I spent the last 7 years working with those in acute psychological distress in community settings utilizing psychoanalytic concepts and interventions within this work context
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe very strongly, that a Lacanian approach is one that 'opens doors', whereas other orientations or behavioral approaches do the opposite. For me, my work is about helping the patient come to terms with essential parts of themselves that they maybe trying to avoid that also subsequently aligns with their specific subjective desire. I do this through a faithful commitment to the psychoanalytic dedication to the facilitation of speech, and help the patient come to say what has otherwise been unsayable in other clinical contexts. This intervention, in my experience, creates the conditions for that patient to gain a sense of conscious agency in pursuing one's desire in such a way that may have been considered impossible prior.
