About My Clients
I welcome anyone who is having a hard time and hoping that things can be easier, but am especially suited to work with people with big feelings, people who exist outside of the gender binary, queer people in general, people who are angry or heartbroken about the state of the world, and people who have always felt like they don't quite fit.
My Background and Approach
I have worked with adults across the age spectrum in areas including gender and sexuality, non-monogamy and polyamory, grief and traumatic loss, substance use disorders, anxiety, loneliness, and emotion regulation. I take a person-centered, feminist approach to therapy, recognizing that one of the most valuable outcomes of this work is the sense of agency and empowerment that comes with identifying what needs to change in our lives, and getting the support needed to make those changes. My warm, nonjudgmental attitude—and strong belief that each of us are the experts in our own lives—creates space for you to determine your own objectives for healing and growth, and to ultimately leave with the tools you need to navigate the ups and downs of life. I utilize techniques including motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and DBT skills and work to match these tools with each client uniquely.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
While I strongly believe in the power of therapy to improve lives, to bring us closer to the people we love, and to give us the skills needed to build and maintain strong communities, I am equally convinced of the necessity of organized efforts to tear down violent structures and build a world in which each of us has what we need to live a full life. Capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, police and prisons, occupation of indigenous land, all structures that disable—these are wound up in our reasons for seeking therapy. They are and feed into state, familial, and relational abuse and violence. They inform our anxiety, depression, isolation, and the pathologizing of our many different ways of perceiving reality. I am still finding my role in efforts to change these structures, but am currently prioritizing caring for friends and neighbors with food, money, and a willingness to listen, and ensuring that my political views inform my work as a therapist.
