About My Clients
I am specifically trained to work with children and adolescents, though also welcome the opportunity to work with adults. I also love working with parents on ways to support their kids, often helping parents to increase their validation of their children's experiences while still holding appropriate boundaries. I work with a broad range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, mood concerns, self-harm, suicidality, behavioral issues, and ADHD.
My Background and Approach
I approach therapy as a collaborative experience, with us working together towards your goals. I highly value client feedback and I ask that parents are involved when working with children. I make sure to establish a warm relationship based on trust, acceptance, and comfort. Before delving into skills-learning, I ensure that the client (and their parents) feels safe, welcomed, and comfortable. I am trained in a variety of evidence-based practices, including CBT, DBT, ACT, ERP, and behavioral management. I work within a broad range of mental health areas, including suicidality, self-harm, anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, ADHD, and more. I often assign "homework" to be completed between sessions. I have nearly a decade of experience working in a variety of settings, including psychiatric hospitals, with children in DFPS custody, in educational nonprofits, and in outpatient pediatric clinics.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone has the capacity to change, and people sometimes just need a little support and guidance to reach their goals. I also believe that the best care comes from working holistically with the client's other providers, school, and family, if relevant. I think mental health issues stem from a variety of factors, including learned behaviors or simply not fitting into societal expectations (e.g., ADHD and autism symptoms). Rather than viewing clients as individuals who need "fixing", I see the kids and teens I work with as their own unique people who are figuring out the world, and might just need some help along the way. I am affirming of people from all different backgrounds.
