About My Clients
My clients are typically women who are feeling exhausted, frustrated, isolated, and anxious due to the adjustment to motherhood. They are struggling to feel like themselves again, figuring out how to manage day to day with a new tiny human, navigating shifting dynamics in their relationships (with their romantic partner, family, friends, coworkers, etc.), and finding even the smallest decisions overwhelming. Many of my clients are also highly sensitive.
My Approach to Helping
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and National Certified Counselor with a Master of Education in Counseling from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. I'm also certified in perinatal mental health (PMH-C), and I am a proud supporter of the Secular Therapy Project. I’ll never tell you to have faith, pray about your emotional pain, consult a magical book of scripture, or go to church. Of course, if you believe in those things and find such practices helpful, I won’t discourage you or try to change your mind, but as a humanist, what I will do is listen, encourage self-care, and collaborate with you to implement strengths-based and intentional treatment strategies, which may include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and mindfulness exercises.
My Values as a Therapist
I grew up in Chester, SC, and moved around quite a bit, from the Washington, DC, area to New York City to Richmond, VA, before settling down in beautiful Wake Forest, NC, where I now live with my husband, son, and dog. My worldview has been significantly influenced by exposure to other cultures, a liberal arts education, and the realization that people do not need religion in order to be kind, loving, and moral world citizens. I proudly support Planned Parenthood, Postpartum Support International, and Freedom From Religion Foundation, and I volunteer with Triangle Area Parenting Support (TAPS) and Recovering From Religion, where I've been a speaker for their RfRx series on different mental health topics. My passion for supporting mothers is rooted in my own struggle with postpartum anxiety after having my son.
