Gender identity issues, sometimes called gender dysphoria or gender conflict, occur when an individual feels an inconsistency between their physical gender and the gender they truly feel or identify with. This most commonly exhibits itself as a physical discomfort with the gender one was assigned at birth, including the feeling of being in the wrong body. Children with gender dysphoria may express disgust of their own genitals or a certainty that they will grow up to be the opposite sex. Some individuals with gender identity issues treat this feeling by physically modifying their bodies to better match their gender identity. Gender dysphoria comes with it an increased risk for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and bullying. If you are experiencing gender identity issues, reach out to one of TherapyDen’s qualified professionals today.

You feel confused and lost - like you don't belong. You have friends and maybe even a romantic partner but these relationships feel one-sided and unsatisfying. Sometimes you think people only like you because of all the things you do for them but you also worry that if you stop, no one will stick around. You feel "weird" because you don't connect to things like "everyone else." You are tired of feeling this way but scared to hope that things can get better.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

When clients begin therapy, many of them are searching for a space to fully express themselves and to process their struggles. My hope is that you find that here and begin to identify ways to move forward. I work with individuals ages 10 years old and up, and especially enjoy working with those who have experienced trauma and empowering them in the healing process. I believe in the healing power of being fully heard and fully accepted.
