I work well with people who want the geek therapy approach to support their identity journey and relationships. My Background and Approach
My style is psychodynamic. Basically, if you believe what happens to you when you are younger affects you when you're older, then we're a match. I will always listen to your emotions first; I also have a background informed by neuroscience. The goal of my approach helps you feel your emotions while also learning why your brain's autopilot works the way it does. Sometimes our brain's auto-pilot is so informed by what we experienced when we were younger, in both ways we treasure and sometimes are traumatized by. If you're doing work with me, expect that it's safe to talk about both. I also work well with creatives and am open to integrating expressive arts into your therapy. If you're an artist that speaks best when you're able to draw while talking, I wholeheartedly support that!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I also value pop culture and comedy often! I couldn’t tell you how many times a deep session started because someone casually brought up a game they played, or a character on a show they love, or a song they found themselves coming back to. I respect this most of all. I think that sometimes the things we do for leisure or comfort, also relate to the issue we want to work on. If you worry that your therapist won’t understand or respect your fandom and that’s blocked you from seeking help or taking steps on yourself in the past, please be at ease.
