About My Clients
Do you find yourself overwhelmed by depression and/or anxiety and lost about how to move forward in your life? Is it making your social life, work, family life, and everything in between harder and harder? Have your ways of coping become harmful? Do you dread things you used to enjoy? Anxiety and depression can be soul-sucking. I can help you take back control of your life and help you be in control of your mind, rather than the other way around, so you can live a better life.
My Background and Approach
I will give you tools to notice the thoughts driving your anxiety, and then help you "flip" your thoughts from dread to thoughts of self-soothing, possibility, and mental flexibility. Over time, the effects of flipping your thoughts will add up to a significantly better, less anxious life. I will give you dozens of additional tools to help you calm your anxiety and develop new, life-improving habits that, over time, add up to big change. I am a former teacher; I bring the goal-setting, planning, and strategizing that teaching requires into my work as a therapist. I believe in evidence-based care: using methods that we know from research are effective and can get results. In order for therapy to work, you need to feel comfortable with me, and have confidence that you can open up without being judged. So, I focus on our relationship, too, and I create lots of opportunities for you to share how it's going for you, what you need, and to work on what's most important to you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe the unexamined life is not worth living. I believe deeply human contact― being listened to, respected, and deeply understood― is healing. I believe people can transform their lives at all ages. I have witnessed people transform their lives in my presence, including 95-year-olds! I I believe good relationships can be profoundly healing, and the most important part of therapy is feeling comfortable with your therapist so you can co-create that healing bond (as supported by lots of evidence! See my love for evidence-based care above). I believe climate crisis is one of the existential issues of our times. I believe people can and do create meaningful, happy lives even in the most extreme and unjust circumstances, and that people can create power in unexpected ways, even when they have been trapped, mistreated, or stuck. I believe happiness is only one part of a good life, and needs to be pursued in a greater context of relationships, responsibility, and meaning.
