About My Clients
First Steps is a high quality mental healthcare practice that provides mental health services to teens aged 13+, adults, and families. As the Founder and CEO, I am a clinical psychotherapist with over 30 years of experience helping clients suffering depression, anxiety, adhd, relationship issues, trauma, eating disorders and substance use. I have a healthy respect for the courage it takes to seek a better life. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you.
My Background and Approach
I am a native Washingtonian who attended The Holton-Arms School, The University of Virginia and The Catholic University of America where I received my Master’s degree. I have also been an innovative and successful clinical leader for three of the largest Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) in the nation. I have worked in residential treatment (alcohol and drug) for the Air Force and was Director of The Renfrew Center, an outpatient program for women suffering eating disorders located in downtown Bethesda. I believe in treating everyone with dignity and respect, sensitivity, and compassion. Listening is so important to building a trusting therapeutic relationship. I promise you will feel heard and understood. My theoretical approach combines cognitive-behavioral, dialectical behavioral, family systems, solution focused and psychodynamic theories. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
When someone experiences trauma or severe life stressors, it is not uncommon for their lives to unravel. One of my great passions is bringing healing to people who have experienced a traumatic or stressful situation. I help my clients, who include adolescents, adults, couples and families, to find healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthen their relationships so they might know themselves as peaceful, complete, whole and safe. My two service dogs, Cody and Tucker, accompany me in my practice unless alternative requests are made.
